Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing played to over 3,500 children!

Encore Theatrical Company recently presented “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing”
as the 2011 Tour to the Schools. Sponsored by a grant from The Alcoa
Foundation, this gave Encore and its volunteers the opportunity to
bring live theatre to over 3,500 elementary school children at NO
CHARGE!
“Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing” is about a fourth grade boy named Peter and his adventures with his family, friends and little three year old brother, Fudge. Peter takes on many journeys with the other characters. However, every event is catastrophically (in the eyes of nine year old Peter) disrupted by Fudge. In every scene throughout the show, Peter is either embarrassed by Fudge, angry at Fudge or neglected because of the presence of Fudge. Peter is the narrator. Whatever the audience hears and sees is portrayed in the way that Peter views each situation.
The humorous tale of Peter Hatcher and his brother Fudge comes to life as twelve actors play seventeen different roles in this stage adaptation of the book by Judy Blume. Capturing all the drama of sibling rivalry and elementary school angst, this delightful show will have students on the edge of their seats.
The cast consisted of Sydney Burchell, Stephen Carpenter, Karen Webber Gilat, Anissa Henrichs, Nolan Keesee, Jack Kennerly, Kendyl Kowalski, Steve Lange, Randy Moles, Austin Pratt, Connie Sexton, Sarah Smith, and Haleigh Raye Winstead.
Encore was pleased to have Kathleen Buttolph as Guest Director for this production. Buttolph has been directing productions and teaching theatre for over 13 years. Kathleen served as Artistic Director of Jonesborough Repertory Theatre from 2003 to 2009, where she produced over 50 productions and founded the theatre’s thriving educational program. Currently, Kathleen is earning a masters degree from ETSU. She is the proud co-founder of POP Arts (Power of Performing Arts), an inclusive performing arts program for children and adults with and without exceptionalities. She and her husband live in Surgoinsville, TN.
Encore is especially grateful to the Alcoa Howmet, the Alcoa Foundation, for their generous support for Encore’s educational programs. Their support enabled Encore to produce this year’s touring production for the schools.
