Encore to hold auditions for Touring production of Charlotte’s Webb
Encore Theatrical Company will hold auditions for their 2010 Touring production of the classic children’s tale
Charlotte’s Webb. The Children's Literature Association named this "the best American children's book of the past two hundred years,"
All the enchanting characters are a part of this production: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be "a true friend and a good writer." Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the "miracle" of her web in which she writes, "Some pig." It's the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now-safe Wilbur doing what is most important to Charlotte. This is a beautiful, knowing play about friendship that provides children an opportunity to experience an enchanting production.
As part of their Educational Programs, Encore offers a touring production to local elementary schools in Hamblen County free of charge. Company Member Frank Williams will be directing the production. Encore is looking for 7 females and 5 males to cast in this touring show. It is important that these actors be available during the daytime for performances. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in March with performances launching in April.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Tennessee Technology Center campus located at 821 W. Louise Avenue in Morristown. The auditions will take place in Building D. Those wishing to audition will read selections from the script.
Encore to hold auditions for The Music Man
The Music Man will march into Morristown in the spring as Encore Theatrical Company’s second offering of the 2010 season. One of the most popular American musicals, Meredith Willson’s masterpiece is the perfect family musical.
The Music Man tells the story of a charismatic con man Harold Hill, who galvanizes a stodgy, entertainment-starved Iowa town at the turn of the century. Intending to fleece the town with a false scheme to organize a boy's band, Hill's plans hit a sour note when he falls for Marian, the town librarian. Ultimately she tames his runabout impulses while he teaches her - and the entire town - the joys of emotional risks.
The Music Man was the sensation of Broadway when it opened in 1957 and went on to score eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical (beating out “West Side Story”). Grammy winning songs include, “Till There Was You,” “76 Trombones,” and the show-stopping tune “Ya Got Trouble.”
Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tennessee Technology Center (Building D), located at 821 W. Louise Avenue in Morristown. The production team is looking for a cast of 40 with ages ranging from children starting at age 7 through adults.
Those wishing to audition should prepare a song (preferably a musical theatre selection of one verse and chorus). Please bring a copy of the sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Some will be asked to read sections from the script. In addition, please wear comfortable clothing. Some will be asked to do a brief movement exercise.
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin mid-March with performances scheduled for May 7-23.

Are you interested in performing onstage?
Audition notices are usually posted 2-3 weeks
before each audition detailing the specific
needs of each production, including number of
cast members, age ranges, and audition
requirements.
Typically, each audition will consist of cold
readings from the script. Sometimes, the
production team may pair people together, and
sometimes you may read with the production team.
For musicals, each person auditioning is asked
to bring a musical theatre selection (in
appropriate key) with sheet music for the
accompanist. Depending on the show, a dance
audition is sometimes in order.
Always remember
that if you have an interest in auditioning, You
SHOULD! Don’t be discouraged or talk yourself
out of it. Auditioning is always a good
experience, and it’s also another chance to
perform! You never know who the production team
is looking for to fill a specific role! It could
be YOU!
